Terri's Tuesday Tip

Here is Terri's Tip for today!
Iodine deficiency is exceedingly common because it cannot be stored by the body and must be obtained daily. The primary source of iodine is seaweed and sea veggies, but these are often contaminated with arsenic, so it is not good to eat a lot of them. Iodized salt used to be a good option, but fell out of favor due to its aluminum content. Bread used to contain iodine in the form of potassium iodide, but this was changed in the 1970s to the cheaper (and TOXIC) bromates, which are in bread that I no longer purchase. (Check the label!)

Iodine is important for proper thyroid function (which is essential to maintain a healthy weight without really trying!) and for healthy breasts. In fact, people with breast pain can often find resolution by taking 3-6 mg/day of iodine for 3-4 months. Iodine deficiency has been linked to breast cancer as well. (It should be used along with breastcancer therapy for those who have it)
Iodine also helps with brain fog and sour stomach. Hmmm.... just a thought (no science here, just my brain questioning).. is it possible that all the babies that require stomach medicine like zantac at birth are simply iodine deficient?

Remember that iodine is essential for proper thyroid function and suboptimal thyroid function lowers IQ, so babies need adequate iodine levels right at birth.

So, consider iodine supplementation to achieve a urine level of at least 5 ug/dl.

Next week.. What's the number one worst food you can eat from a toxic chemical standpoint? Send in your thoughts and I will let you know next week!

My guess for worst chemical food? Splenda? I've quit- it has chlorine in it. I've read tons of horrid stuff about it, and now all kinds of companies are using it in their food. Crazy. -e

My guess is hot dogs or lunch meat, although there's plenty of scary stuff out there.
